If you are an active Safaricom subscriber, you must have seen a pop-up message or just a short message telling you that you have spent this amount of money and you need to spend extra X amount to earn free Storo Bonus airtime, right? So, how do you check balance? How do you buy data with Storo Bonus? How about unsubscribing from the product?

Safaricom PLC introduced Storo Bonus back in 2015 to encourage its users to spend more airtime on calls, SMS or buying data. Upon hitting your daily target, they would give you 100% airtime bonus which by then you could use to make calls and send SMS till midnight. Later, further advancements were introduced, and now you can buy data with the bonus airtime. Below is a step by step guide on how to check Storo Bonus entries, convert them to data, subscribe and unsubscribe.

It is a brilliant idea to know your daily target. With this knowledge, you can easily budget your daily expenditure on airtime to get the bonus. Below is how you can check your target. Note that you don’t necessarily need a smartphone, internet connection, and some airtime to do so as we will be using a USSD code.

Open your “phone”/ “dialer” application: In most phones, this app has an icon of a mouth and earpiece. It is also labeled “phone” or “dialer” depending on your phone model and can easily be found on the bottom part of your home screen.

Dial *460# from your Safaricom line: This can be done quickly by using the app’s keypad or if you are not using a smartphone, your phone’s keyboard. After you are done, click on the call icon either (it’s usually green in color and has a phone icon). Wait as the USSD code runs.

Reply with “check my Target”: This is the first option so key in number “1” from your keyboard and wait as it runs the command. After, you will see a pop-up message telling you to spend X amount of money to get 100% reward. If you have a lower Storo Bonus target, you will spend less to earn the extra airtime than when you have a higher one.

How to check daily spend

Now you know your Storo target, how do you check what you have already spent?

Use steps 1 to 2 from the above procedure.

Key in 5: Use your keypad to do so and press the send button so that you will see your usage for that day. From the target and expenditure information, you can easily know how much airtime you will use to earn the bonus.

How to check Storo Bonus balance

Keeping track of your unused airtime balance is very useful especially if it has a shorter expiry. Like for instance, Storo Bonus expires at midnight. With the knowledge of the exact balance you have, you can use the bounty wisely before it runs out.

Use steps 1 to 2 from how to check Storo Bonus target procedure.

Reply with “Check my Storo Bonus Balance”: Key in number 2 from your keypad.

Press the “send” button: You will receive a short message showing your balance and expiry time, usually midnight.

How to use Storo Bonus for bundles

Here is how you can redeem Storo Bonus to get valid data bundles.

Open your “Phone”/ “Dialer” application: This app is visible on the bottom part of your smartphone screen. For older versions, this app is normally a button with a phone icon.

Dial *544# from your Safaricom line: Use your keypad and key in the USSD code. Press the call green button and move to the next step as the code runs.

Reply with 98: Key in 98 from your keypad and press the send button so that more options will appear. You will see “Storo Data” in the USSD menu.

Reply with 13 to go purchase Story Data: Depending on your balance, you will be able to purchase data bundles valid till midnight.

You can also use “*460#” without the quotations instead of *544# and then select the last option to buy data with the free entries.

How to unsubscribe from Storo Bonus

Are you tired of receiving messages telling you that you have spent X amount to receive extra airtime? Here is how you can unsubscribe from the service. Note that after you unsubscribe, you won’t be able to receive any bonuses even if you use a lot of airtime.

Open your “dialer”/”phone” app.

Dial *460#: Run the USSD code using your Safaricom line if you are using a dual sim phone.

Reply with 3 to unsubscribe: After keying in the number, click on the “send” button.

Confirm the action: You will be prompted to confirm if you want to unsubscribe from the promotion. Reply with 2 to validate the activity. A short message will be sent to you affirming the action.

If you change your mind later, you can use the same procedure to subscribe. However, reply with option 4 and not 3.

Storo Bonus terms and conditions

The following are some major terms and conditions of the promotion that you ought to know before enrolling.

The promotion is only open to subscribers in Uwezo and Baraka tariffs. PostPay, cooperate/SME, and roaming customers are not eligible.

You cannot transfer the reward to your friends or family members or anyone.

You must achieve your target by 23.59 hours every day to earn the amount. Otherwise, your daily spend will be reset at that time.

You can use the reward to send SMS, call and even purchase data bundles before 23.59 hours.

Mpesa and Okoa Jahazi charges do not amount to anything in your daily spend.

The reward you get is consumed first before your purchased airtime.

Safaricom reserves all the rights to increase or lower the Storo Bonus target.

The reward can never earn Bonga points.
